Happy New Year!!!
Our Spring Piano Recital 2016 was a huge success! We had so many first time performers and everyone worked really hard. It was a lot of fun and I want to thank everyone who contributed to our potluck event afterwards. I look forward to recitals every year as it's a chance for everyone to get together, share our love of music, and of course have some fun! Here are the many photos taken by Briana Lee. Thank you!
We are excited to offer our first Mini Masters Summer Piano Workshop!
Would you like to meet a Masters of Music Piano Performance pianist and teacher?
Please join our first out of town guest pianist and teacher Nicole Lee for our first Mini Masters Piano Workshop! Nicole is my piano teacher's sister who went on to pursue a career in piano and a Masters in Piano Performance. Nicole has expressed an interest to host a workshop at my piano studio and I am excited for her to share her love for the piano, music, and expertise!
Get up close and personal with Nicole as she will be doing a mini performance, speak about piano techniques and/or tips, provide an opportunity for interested students to play for her and for her to provide feedback, and a short Q&A session that students may have about music, career, or learning or practising the piano. I highly recommend this for students entering Level 1 Piano Adventures and up!
Fee: $14 Siblings: $22
Minimum: 8 students to make it happen!
Offer For: Current, Past, & Waitlisted Students Only
Please respond by July 1st. Please choose all the times / days you are available.
Let me know if you are interested in having more of these Mini Master workshops in the future!
Hello Students & Families,
This is a friendly reminder that we will be closed during Spring Break (March 14 - March 28) and Miss Donna will be away in Europe until April 10th. All extra lessons scheduled in between are still happening, unless cancelled directly by the teacher.
We hope you have a wonderful Spring Break!
Happy Keys Music Studio
This is an incredibly important topic and I love how TeachPianoToday.com has articulated beautifully what parents need to know.
Learning the piano requires WORK, DEDICATION, and COMMITMENT from students and parents. Whether your child is learning piano for FUN or for other reasons, it is important to establish a positive environment for learning and playing at home.
From all my years of teaching, the children who succeed the most and have the most fun are the ones who have engaging and proactive parents involvement at home and in class. This is especially important for younger children under the age of 8 years old because they do not yet understand the idea of practising.
Children understand the idea of playing the piano but they do not yet fully understand this idea of practicing on their own. This idea must be taught by an adult and reinforced positively at home. This does require parents to be creative in their ways to help their children learn and play at home. Unless you have decided that you only want your child to go to lessons to play, then please do not expect your child to progress quickly. Each child is different and with minimal support at home, you can expect minimal progress.
Please consider your child's mood, best time of the day to practice, hunger, external events, and your time to be able to sit next to your child. Below is a great read on what parents need to know about piano practice at home.
Educators and parents, how do you ensure piano practice happens at home? Would love for you to share any insights and experiences.
Back to teaching tomorrow! I am so excited to see everyone. I hope you have all enjoyed your break. ~ Miss. Donna
